Peace Corps Romania’s Multicultural Awareness committee has prepared these two great lessons for teaching about Martin Luther King Jr. Day, what it means for Americans, and encouraging your students to follow Dr. King’s example of service.

The first lesson was prepared last year and distributed among volunteers in Romania. It concerns Dr. King’s iconic “I Have A Dream” speech and asks students to reflect on their own dreams for their communities and write their own version of the speech.

Check it out here.

The second deals with Dr. King’s call to service. He once said:

“If you want to be important—wonderful. If you want to be recognized—wonderful. If you want to be great—wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. (Amen) That’s a new definition of greatness.”

Students are asked how we can overcome our differences and serve each other, then make create a piece of art about what they’ve learned.
